With the popularity of the Samsung Galaxy S3, it was just a matter of time before the first clones would show up. Today we have received information on the first clone made by a company called ‘ HDC’.

The specs are not that great compared to the Galaxy S3, but it is almost scary how the design matches that of the Galaxy S3. Let’s have a look if the $200 phone is a match for the $700 Galaxy S3

The HDC Galaxy S3 i9300

The phone has a 4.7 inch LCD screen with a resolution of 800×480 pixels (compared to 1280×720 for the S3). One of the major features of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is of course its quad core processor (4 cores running at 1.4 GHz each). The HDC Galaxy S3 only has one core running at 1GHz.

The camera at the back is a 5MP camera, which  will do the trick but won’t make beautiful pictures like the Samsung Galaxy S3 (8MP) does.

The clone is running on Android 2.3, but HDC has tried to mimic Samsungs TouchWiz design with a custom wallpaper and icons.

Here are some other specifications:

  • 4.7 inch capacitive touchscreen
  • Android 2.3 OS
  • Support WiFi, GPS, TV
  • Support 3G network: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 & WCDMA 850/2100 MHz
  • 5MP back camera + 0.3MP front camera
  • Support dual SIM cards at same time,
  • Multi-language: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Russian…
Although this phone is no match for the Samsung Galaxy S3, it is impressive to see how fast companies like HDC catch up. They are just a couple of years behind bigger companies like Samsung, Apple and HTC technology wise.
Who know’s what the feature will bring, a clone of the Galaxy S3 having a quad core processor for just $200? When this happens phones like this will become a serious alternative (and threat to the leading companies)
