Although the Galaxy S3 will come with 16/32/64 GB of storage and a slot for a microSD card, Samsung has made sure that you will never get out of space by making a great deal with Dropbox.

Every buyer of the Galaxy S3 will receive 50 GB of free cloud storage by Dropbox.

Galaxy S3 users will get 50GB of dropbox storage

For those of you that don’t know what Dropbox is, it is a cloud file storage service.

When you upload a file to your dropbox account it will be available from your mobile phone using the app, an application on your computer and the dropbox website. This way you have access to your documents everywhere you go, all the time.

Dropbox and the Galaxy S3: What do you get

The first thing that came to my mind was, what’s in it for Dropbox?

Currently Dropbox is already available for BlackBerry, IOS and Android for free (you get 2GB of storage), if you want more storage you will have to pay a fee ($10/month for 50GB). Why would Dropbox give this away for free?

Well there are two reason:

  1. The 50GB plan is only free the first year you use it, after this year you will have to pay if you want to keep using the 50GB plan. Of course Dropbox is hoping that after a year of using Dropbox you can’t live without it and are willing to pay for their service.
  2. The competition is growing rapidly. In the last few months many other cloud storage providers have showed up. Apple is offering cloud service with iCloud, Microsoft has Skydrive and recently Google also jumped on the bandwagon with their Google Drive service.Google Drive offers 5GB of free storage (compared to the 2GB dropbox offers) and since Android and Google go hand it hand, Google Drive is a huge threat for dropbox.

In the end, it is a great deal for both old and new Dropbox users, although in my opinion the Galaxy S3 already has enough storage, the great benefit of Dropbox is that your files are synced on every device you install dropbox on.

Tell us what you think about the deal, do you plan to use Dropbox or not?
