Just weeks after the release of the Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung has launched its first OTA (Over The Air) firmware update that should improve the stability of your phone

Samsung releases firmware update

Your phone should automatically notify you of the available update and you can download it using Wi-Fi or 3G. The 31mb update should improve the stability of your phone.

If you haven’t had the notification yet, you can go to Settings > About Device > Software update, to manually update to the latest firmware.

Firmware updates improves stability

The big question remains, what has been changed with this new firmware? The description given with the update itsself is a bit vague and simply states that the update “improves stability”, but what does it mean?

We have noticed a few things:

  • The ‘redraw bug’ – that sometimes causes the interface to load really slow after leaving an app seams to be fixed.
  • The phone now scores higher in various benchmark apps. For example in the Quadrant benchmark app the phone used to score 5300, and now it is scoring 5500.
  • The phone appears to be a bit faster and snappier, but this could just be our imagination.
If we find out more we will update this post!
If you have done the upgrade let us know how it went and if you noticed any differences in the comments below
