With the announcement of the new version of Android earlier this week by Google, it was just a matter of time before Samsung would release an official statement regarding the new Android version.

Samsungs official statement on Jelly Bean

To our surprise, this statement has come rather fast. What we can learn from the statement is that Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Nexus S users will be the first to enjoy Jelly Bean. In the statement Samsung also mentions the Galaxy S3, so assume that the Galaxy S3 will get an update to Android 4.1

Here is the official statement by Samsung:

Samsung will soon announce which additional devices are eligible for the Jelly Bean update. As the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer, Samsung leads the Android community with best-in-class devices like the Galaxy S3, and is creating new device categories with products like the Galaxy Note. Samsung has delivered the most Nexus-branded lead OS devices and we are pleased that Google will be bringing Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S customers the first experiences of Jelly Bean on a handheld device

When will Android 4.1 arrive on the S3?

When the update arrives for the Samsung Galaxy S3 remains unknown. Rumors talk about a Q3 release, but this seems rather fast since Q3 already started.

However, it is interesting to mention that Google recently announced that it will give phone manufacturers like Samsung access to the latest Android version faster than before. Also, the changes from 4.0 to 4.1 aren’t that big, so an update shouldn’t take to long to develop.

Once we know more on the release date for the Galaxy S3 we will let you know!

Well I’m still waiting to get ICS on my Samsung tablet after 8 months so I am not optimistic. Samsung’s approach on firm ware updates is appalling. I have emailed and called and no one can tell me when the update will be available or why it has already taken 8 months (for ICS). As a result I am left with a device that I am using less and less because its performance is so poor compared with Jellybean, especially the browser. If you are buying a Samsung device, you need to understand that your firmware will be out of date within around 6 months. Not good enough Samsung! You are treating your customers very poorly.
