Why do we still know nothing about the Galaxy S3?
News April 19, 2012 521 views 2 CommentsWith an Samsung Mobile Unpacked event just around the corner (May 3rd), it is amazing how little we actually know about Samsung’s upcoming smartphone.

While we have had various leaks with information (especially on a phone with model number GT-i9300) we still have no idea what will happen on May 3rd. Are any of the rumors even true? What we do know is that on May 3rd Samsung will announce the “next Galaxy”, but what phone could this be?
Of course, we hope that Samsung will announce the Samsung Galaxy S3. But they could also announce a different phone, like an upgraded version of the Galaxy S2 (Like Apple did with the iPhone, after the iPhone 4 they announced an iPhone 4s and not the iPhone 5).
Or perhaps they will release a complete new phone? Various rumors talk about a Samsung Galaxy M, could this be an entire new phone, or just a code name for the Samsung Galaxy S3?
Samsung Galaxy S3 in disguise
The reason we still have seen no pictures of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is that Samsung is using a new tactic. Similiar to what Apple is doing, Samsung has put “generic test boxes” around the Samsung Galaxy S3. This way when you look at the phone you see nothing special, but on the inside the device is running the Samsung Galaxy S3 hardware.
This allows Samsung to test the device in public, without having to worry about employees leaking images of the Samsung Galaxy S3
Downgraded Samsung Galaxy S3 specifications
Another reason why we still don’t know anything is that Samsung has probably downgraded its testphones. So any of the leaked specifications we see today are fake.

With tests taking place by numerous carriers around the world, the chance for a leak is high. One way to prevent leaks of the Samsung Galaxy S3 specifications is to downgrade the device. For example, Samsung could send out the S3 as a test device with a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.4 GHz, while when the Samsung Galaxy S3 is released it will pack the same CPU clocked at 1.8 GHz.
Untill May 3rth we can only guess what is going to happen. Even though most of the rumors we will hear in the upcoming weeks won’t be true, we will write about them just to be sure. What do you think will happen on May 3rd?
